Cherry Blossom Wedding Theme - Introduction

Due to their versatility, varied symbolism and simple elegance, the cherry blossom has become a very popular component to a number of wedding themes.  The blooms range in color from white to deep pink, and their multi-cultural heritage make these flowers a great theme choice for brides with Japanese, Korean, Canadian or American backgrounds.

Cherry blossoms not only look and smell beautiful; they also has a number of symbolic meanings.  In Chinese culture, the cherry blossom symbolizes feminine beauty.  In the language of flowers, cherry blossoms stand for love.  The blooms are also an emblem of good fortune, and an enduring metaphor for the fleeting nature of life.   Each of these meanings can be translated into an entire wedding theme.  For example, if you choose to focus on the belief of good fortune, you can incorporate fortune cookie favors, good luck charms and lucky pennies into your event.  Another choice for your wedding would be to use the flower's meaning of love and incorporate the word "Love" into your invitations and favors, then wrap the word with cherry branches or blossoms.  There are countless ways that the cherry blossom can be incorporated into your wedding day; we will explore a few of these ways in more detail over the next few days.  Cherry blossoms also bloom anywhere from early spring to late fall (depending on the variety), so they can easily be coordinated into a wedding held at most any time of year.

If you have chosen to use the Cherry Blossom as your wedding theme, I would first suggest that you define the theme with a few more details.  For example, would you like to use the pure white blossoms that have just a tinge of pale pink around the edges, our do you like the deep pink blossoms that cascade from the branches?  Likewise, will you be depicting the blossoms alone, in bunches, or shown still on the branch?  The cherry tree branches are normally shown as crooked pieces, so it would be easy to manipulate them to wrap around your names on the wedding program or to encircle the concept with something fun like cherry blossom candle favors.

Now is also the perfect time to choose a color scheme.  The possibilities are endless - a white cherry blossom really stands out on an aqua or bright green background, the pale pink blooms pair beautifully with dark pink accents, and the deep pink blossoms are a great choice for your chocolate and pink wedding.  Once you choose the cherry blossom as your wedding theme, it will be easy to expand on that theme and create an elegant and memorable wedding day!
