You’ve got everything lined up and ready to go for your wedding. But, uh oh, what about the programs for the ceremony? You can save yourself time, money, and hassle by doing them yourself. Make them right off your computer and you’ll have them done in a jiffy. Or design them yourself using an online program from a printing web site. Neither one takes much time and you’ll be thrilled with the results.
Say you’re going to print the programs off your computer. First, decide what kind of paper you want to use. You’ll either want to find one that matches your theme colors, or you can just go with a plain, pretty white or cream color. You don’t have to go all out and get too fancy with the program. It’s really just a nice addition so that your guests can follow along. It’s also a nice place to thank anyone who has been especially helpful to you in making your wedding day happen. So just use paper that’s good enough that it won’t easily tear and will make a nice keepsake in the hope chest. But forget the super-expensive papers as the money is better spent elsewhere.
The wedding ceremony program is not one where you have to have engraved, raised type and a very formal document like you might have done for your invitations. In fact, you can go a bit more casual if you like with the program. Of, course, if you have the budget and you really want your program to have a high-quality look and feel, you can order them online. You can’t order them at the time you place your order for your wedding invitations because you won’t yet have all the details of the final ceremony set by then. But you can still get good quality programs online.
One good idea for doing it yourself is using baby pictures of you and your fiancé. You can scan an old photo of each of you and insert it into a document on your computer. Then, simply type in the order of your events. You can then print it off your home computer. You can design them so that two fit on a page and thereby save yourself some paper. It can be a half of an 8.5 x 11” and look just great. Include an introduction that tells the bride’s and groom’s names and the date of the wedding, order of the ceremony, the wedding party, mom, dad, and grandparents’ names, and a final thanks or dedication.
If you want to do your programs online, check out an online printing site where you can design them yourself. They will offer you a choice of templates and you fill in the details. You can choose from any number of type fonts and colors and usually, the printing time is quick. Just sit back and wait for them to arrive at your doorstep.
One thing to consider ahead of time is that the programs may need to be folded. Enlist a bridesmaid or friend at the rehearsal dinner, and not the morning of the ceremony, to fold them for you. There won’t be time for anyone to stand there folding programs the day of the wedding, so assign the duty as soon as your programs are printed.
