So you’ve chosen to have a Valentine’s Day wedding? Great choice! What could possibly be sweeter than two sweethearts tying the knot on the day the world sets aside for love? Your wedding can be absolutely gorgeous when you use Valentine’s Day as your backdrop.
Of course, red and white are the traditional colors for Valentine’s Day. Think hearts and roses. But also, there’s the candy associated with the day. One fantastic idea that many brides don’t think of is to add the hues of chocolate brown to your day in subtle shades. The girls can carry bouquets of brown flowers. Calla lilies, in particular, look stunning in dark brown. But a florist can suggest many others as well.
First, you can have your bridesmaids wear chocolate-colored silk gowns. A stunning shade of rich, deep chocolate will work well along with the reds and whites in the rest of the décor. With a decadent brown as another focal point, everyone will feel as though they’ve been bitten by the Valentine’s Day chocolate bug. Opt to have LOVE wedding favors or themed decor, it's so cute and it will totally add to the charm.
The ladies will be in brown silks, so what will you wear? You can go traditional with a white gown and add red or brown accents. One way to add an accent is by adding color to your shoes. You might choose to wear white heels with a brown heart shoe clip or a red rose on top. These are easy ways to add a pop of color without screaming accent. Another way is to add a drop of color at your neckline. You can wear garnets or smoky quartz, which is brown. You can also tie a red satin or brown velvet sash around your waist.
If you still want more pops of color, think about the cake. You can go with a dark chocolate fondant cake with red or white accents. Have brown roses on top or the traditional red roses mixed with a few brown flowers. There’s something about dark brown flowers that makes them look so expensive, when really they’re not.
If you want to carry through the red theme, for hearts, why not serve a tomato soup in white bowls. Have the caterer pipe two hearts on top of the bowl in cream and the contrast will look darling. The more ways you can incorporate reds and whites, the more your theme will come across. Serve a red cocktail as your signature drink and give out strawberry jam in pretty jars as your favors.
Of course you can go as far with the theme as you like. You can have the groomsmen wear red ties and send out red invitations. Red table cards and centerpieces also work well. Red containers of bubbles are also cute. Or you could choose to give out heart wedding favors!
When you’re doing a Valentine’s Day wedding, there is no way to do it wrong. After all, the theme is love, so go wild with it. Just be sure to keep one color, such as white, dominant to anchor the décor. Then have many accents throughout the day in another color like red or the chocolate brown. Oh, and have plenty of chocolate available in the form of dessert or a chocolate fountain. Guests will love that you served the holiday’s favorite confection.
