Christmas Wedding Decorations

Image by laura dye on FlickrIf you’re having a Christmas wedding, you have the perfect backdrop for a beautiful and magical wedding already set up for you. Use the decorations and lights that are part of the season already to make your wedding a wonderland.

Depending on where you are having your wedding, many of the decorations may already be set up. Are you having the reception at an inn? They may already have a Christmas tree set up. You can plan to use it as your focal point for the evening.

Most public reception halls will have some sort of decorations in place from lights outdoors to wreaths and trees. But you can always add more. Christmas is one time when too much is never enough! The cheer you add with your decorations will only make the merriment that much more enjoyable.

One cute thing you can add to your tables is snow globe favors. Your tables will look darling with a small snow globe at each place. Think of a pair of snowmen or reindeer or doves. Pairs work well for a wedding theme. You can also choose a small village scene for inside your snow globe. Especially if you are having a small town wedding, these mystical snow globes will remind guests of your wedding every time they look at them at home. And guests will take your snow globe favors out as part of their yearly Christmas decorations. You can write on the bottoms of each globe the date of your wedding. Use metallic marker if the bases are black or a dark color.

A cascade of red poinsettias down the side of a white wedding cake can look charming. Just be sure to ask your florist about using silk poinsettias. Real ones can be poisonous, so better safe than sorry. And your flowers can look just as real with the silks they have today.

You can carry poinsettias as your bouquet when you walk down the aisle. A large gathering of red poinsettia stems can really stand out against your wedding dress. And don’t worry about them being poisonous, as you’re not eating anything that they are touching. But just keep your bouquet out of reach of smaller children who may find it fascinating and want to touch it.

PoinsettaOf course, add lights, lights, lights! You can’t have too many strings of white lights. Wrap them around poles or have mini Christmas tree centerpieces at each table wrapped in battery-operated white lights. And candles will go a long way towards the ambiance of a cozy wedding. Turn the lights to dim and make your candles the focal points. Use some of the many flameless candles available and you won’t have to worry if they get knocked over or are left unattended. Don’t forget to put some in the ladies’ and men’s rooms to keep the ambiance going. If the inn or restaurant has a fireplace, be sure to ask them to light it for even more glow.

Your winter wedding can be a magical scene set for the day by you. Your guests will walk into your church and your reception thinking they’ve just stepped into a living snow globe!
