While doing this research, I found one of my favorite looks for Alicia & Steven’s Wedding at the Knot.  The chocolate brown strapless dresses are tied with simple aqua blue sashes. The flower girl dresses matched the ivory color of the wedding gown, but they had brown sashes that coordinated perfectly with the bridesmaid dresses.  The color combination and style is gorgeous in my opinion. 

The great thing about brown bridesmaid dresses is that they tend to give you more color options for flowers than aqua blue dresses. That said, both colors look fantastic as you can see in the photograph below.  Pink and coral colored flower arrangements tend to look the best with this color combination.

An Edwardian fairy tale wedding will very often include lace on bridal gowns and integrated into table decor, either as a full lace tablecloth or delicate lace doilies.  An excellent bridesmaid gift for this type of wedding is an engraved cameo that can be worn on the day of the wedding and treasured as a keepsake by each bridesmaid.  You may also choose a tiara rather than a veil for your bridal headpiece, or combine the two for a truly elegant look.  You can also choose a larger tiara for the bride and smaller, but similar tiaras for each bridesmaid and flower girl.

The reception decor for your Edwardian wedding can include many curved lines as seen in many Art Noveau pieces of that period.  Another characteristic of this period are finely detailed gilded mirrors, and when hung side by side can create the illusion of space in an otherwise crowded reception hall.

Start your custom wedding invitations with a catchy phrase such as “Once Upon A Time”, “Dreams Do Come True”, or “My Fairy Tale Came True, I’ve Fallen For You!”  Sprinkle the inside of the invitations with gold glitter and seal them with a fairy tale-themed sticker or stationery seal.

As guests enter your reception, greet them with twinkling lights or rich velvet drapery.  Dress the walls with gilded mirrors and set the tables with golden candleabras.  For more of a whimsical celebration, add a Frog Prince Candle to each table or guest favor bag.

Depending on your fairy tale style, your wedding dress can mimic one that Cinderella wore or one similar to the regal ball gown that Princess Diana made famous.  The groom’s prince-like attire can include a sword at his side, full military dress (if appropriate), or a double-breasted suit with ascot and matching vest.

Be sure to follow proper wedding etiquette and send special thank you notes to the people who played an important part in your wedding - each bridal party member, the person who performed your ceremony, any musicians or singers, and your reception host/hostess.  Purchase a pack of monogrammed note cards to match the thank you cards you will send for each of your wedding gifts.

If you like, request that guests dress in black and white to attend your wedding.  Include a tastefully worded phrase on your invitation that mentions the theme and asks guests to join the festivities by dressing to match.  A simple black and white decorating scheme with flickering candlelight will add an air of romance to your reception venue.  You can even have your cake decorated in black and white to match!

Black and white doesn’t always have to signify a formal affair - celebrate the days of black and white pictures with movie-themed place card frames at your tables.  Find some stunning black and white photographs to use as table centerpieces, or have some of your favorite photos reprinted in black and white.  Consider pure white flowers with black ribbon accents, or have bridesmaids carry a simple arrangement consisting of a single bright hue that will add a pop of color to your black and white setting.

Black and white weddings are appropriate for day or evening, formal or informal.  If you are planning an elegant affair, consider floor-length bridesmaid gowns with elbow gloves and a coordinated wrap.  If you’re having an afternoon wedding, shorten the dresses to tea-length and add fingertip gloves (or none at all).  The bridesmaid gowns don’t have to be either black or white, select a pretty black-and-white pattern and match this pattern to the groomsmen’s vest, cummerbund or tie.  Many of this year’s wedding dresses offer subtle color accents, so choose a white gown with black edging or a patterned insert that matches your bridesmaid dresses.
