We interviewed our Aisle Runners expert, Jackie Dulguime of ROCKNEVENTS to answer a few of the most common questions she gets:

What is an aisle runner?

An aisle runner "paves" the way for a bride to walk down her own personal catwalk! A classic aisle runner would be a fabric that runs down the center of the aisle. We still see this tradition used today! Additionally, there are some other unique ways to create aisle runners such with floral boxes on the sides, mirrored aisles, and flower petals sprinkles throughout.

What is the purpose of an aisle runner?

Originally, an aisle runner was meant to protect a bride's dress from getting ruined. During earlier times, many ceremonies would be performed on church properties which had no flooring, and this meant a lot of dirt. However, in today's modern society aisle runners are kept for design purposes and enhancing the walkway for a bride to walk down the aisle.

How much are aisle runners?

This depends on the type of aisle runner. When choosing floral options, this will definitely be more costly than using fabric! For fabric aisle runners, there are many factors to cost such as size, type of fabric and any custom monograms.

How long of an aisle runner do I need?

Aisle runners typically move throughout the whole center space, from the start of the chairs to the end!

How do you keep an aisle runner in place?

When using fabric aisle runners, you can keep them in place by using double sided tape. Of course, make sure it's heavy duty! The aisle runner can also be supported by placing heavy objects on the sides and ends. If you are still concerned your aisle runner may be a tripping hazard, I would definitely suggest sprinkling your aisle with petals instead.

Does the bridal party walk on the aisle runner?

Depending on the bride's decision, the bridal party can walk on the aisle runner followed by the ring bearer and flower girl - it makes great photo opportunities! If the bride chooses to be the first person to walk on the aisle runner, traditionally the ushers would assist in "rolling" it out. It depends on how grand the bride wants to make her entrance. ;)
