We interviewed our Favor Tags & Packaging expert, Libby Sarver of Details Wedding Planning, to answer a few of the most common questions she gets:

What is a favor box?

A favor box is a small container that you'd find at a wedding or event that contains a fun treat for guests. Typically you'll see them set at each individual place setting during the meal or displayed on a table to be distributed at the end of the event. Favor boxes can be all different colors and shapes, but are almost always on the smaller size (just a few inches tall). Have fun choosing one that matches your event's style and theme!

What sweets go in favor boxes?

What sweets do you like?! Favors are such a great way to customize your wedding. I suggest choosing something that represents you, either individually or as a couple, to go into the boxes.

To choose the right favor, ask yourself some questions:
- What's my favorite go-to sweet?
- What's my partner's favorite sweet?
- Is there a sweet that is representative of us together?
- Is there a sweet that represents where we met, or where we're getting married?

Just for fun, why not have a taste testing to determine which favor you like most?

What do you put in goodie bags?

Wedding goodie bags are like wedding favor boxes, you truly can put whatever you'd like in them. They differ, however, in the amount of items. You would expect a goodie bag to have multiple items that vary in size and purpose. I like to suggest that couples fill goodie bags with useful items AND their favorites.

You can theme goodie bags (hangover kits, late night bags, spa kits, etc.) or they can be a mixed bag of surprises that are specific to your event. For example, in wedding welcome goodie bags that are delivered to out of town guests in hotels, I always suggest including the following: a salty snack, a sweet snack, something to drink, a welcoming note, a weekend itinerary, information about the area, and something event specific- a koozie, custom door hanger, etc. You can even get fun customized items like lip balm! Ask yourself, would you like/use this item if you were a guest? If the answer is "yes" guests will enjoy it, too!

What are favor tags?

Favor tags are small labels you attach to boxes, bags, etc. that inform or thank guests. Favor tags can be more extensive, having longer messages that explain to guests what's in the box, as well as the reasoning behind the favor, OR they can be short and sweet, with the name of the event and a quick "thanks for coming!" Tags are another cute way to customize your event with not only the wording, but with color, size, shape, etc.

How do I make my own gift tags?

Making your own gift tags can be a laborious process. You can buy the materials, decide what you want them to say, print the labels, cut them out, and attach them to your goodie bags or favor boxes. If you're looking for a custom tag, but aren't really interested in the full DIY process, you can also use templates on websites that give you a place to start, but allow you to customize wording, coloring, shape, etc. The websites will then produce them, and mail them to you. And tags don't have to be paper cutouts - you could also use stickers as a fun alternative!
